USA: Petraeus avverte l'Iran è il più grande pericolo per l'Iraq, non l’ISIS

L’ex capo della NATO e delle forze multinazionali in Afghanistan il generale americano David Petraeus ha avvertito circa la minaccia del regime iraniano in Iraq, lo ha riferito il quotidiano francese Le Figaro.

Petraeus ha descritto le attività di Qassem Suleimani, il capo del regime iraniano delle Quds Force in Iraq, come "inquietante".

"Lo Stato islamico (ISIS), non è il più grande pericolo per l'Iraq", ha detto Petraeus. "E sarà sconfitto, prima o poi, e l'Iraq preserverà la sua integrità territoriale. Se il Primo Ministro Al-Abadi Haider e il parlamento riescono a rassicurare i sunniti, dando loro motivi per sostenere il nuovo Iraq, allora questi li aiuteranno a sbarazzarsi di ISIS."

Petraeus ha detto: "Il timore è che queste milizie non ripuliscano solo le zone conquistate, ma deportino anche sunniti e cerchino di alterare l'equilibrio demografico in alcuni luoghi, come la provincia di Diyala, a nord di Baghdad e alcuni quartieri misti della capitale."

Circa la ricomparsa delle milizie sciite, che batté Al-Qaeda nel 2008 e fu poi battuta dagli internazionali e dall'esercito iracheno, ha detto: «Qassem Suleimani, il capo della Forza Quds iraniana, sorprendentemente agisce apertamente in Iraq."

Aggiungendo che Suleimani offre consulenza, logistica e armi alle milizie. "Questo è incredibile per uno come lui più utilizzato per operare nell'ombra", ha detto Petraeus. "Questo è inquietante."

Petraeus ha accusato l'ex primo ministro iracheno Nouri Al-Maliki di danneggiare l'esercito iracheno cambiando i capi ben qualificati e moderati con estremisti e corrotti. Ciò ha portato allo scioglimento dell'esercito, che è stato facilmente battuto da ISIS.

Il generale americano ha avvertito che le milizie sciite potrebbero effettuare la pulizia etnica contro i sunniti, dopo il ritiro e la sconfitta di ISIS, al fine di creare una nuova realtà demografica di cui sopra.

US Petraeus warns Iran is greatest danger facing Iraq, not ISIS

Former Head of NATO and the multinational forces in Afghanistan US General David Petraeus warned about the Iranian regime's threat to Iraq, French daily Le Figaro reported.

Petraeus described the activities of Qassem Suleimani, the head of the Iranian regime's Quds Force in Iraq, as "disturbing".

"Islamic State (ISIS) is not the greatest danger facing Iraq," Petraeus said. "It will be defeated sooner or later, and Iraq will preserve its territorial integrity. If the Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi and parliament manage to reassure Sunnis, give them reasons to support the new Iraq, then these will help them get rid of ISIS."

Petraeus said: "The fear is that these militias do not just clean the conquered areas, but they also deport Sunnis and seek to alter the demographic balance in some places, such as Diyala province, north of Baghdad and some mixed neighbourhoods of the capital."

About the reappearance of the Shia militias, which beat Al-Qaeda in 2008 and were then beaten by the international and the Iraqi army, he said: "Qassem Suleimani, the head of the Iranian Quds Force, works surprisingly openly in Iraq."

Adding that Suleimani offers consultation, logistics and weapons to the militias. "This is amazing for someone like him more used to operating in the shadows," said Petraeus. "This is disturbing."

Petraeus accused former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki of damaging the Iraqi army as he changed the well qualified and moderate chiefs with extremist and corrupted ones. This led to his dissolution of the army, which was easily beaten by ISIS.

The American General warned that the Shia militias might carry out ethnic cleansing against the Sunnis, after the retreat and defeat of ISIS, in order to create a new demographic reality as mentioned above.
