Celebrating Nonviolent Resistance: An International Conference

Bethlehem University, Palestine

A pre-conference religious pilgrimage tour and a post-conference political tour are also available for those wishing to explore the local experience in greater depth.

Theme:
Celebrating Palestinian and International Nonviolent Resistance: Learning from Each Others' Experiences.
To bring together members of the global nonviolent community to discuss the past, present and future of nonviolent resistance; and to learn first hand about nonviolent activism in Palestine.

Tracks:
1- Methods and Theory of Nonviolence
2- Palestinian Nonviolent Movements
3- Past, Present, and Future of Nonviolence Struggle
4- Religion and Nonviolence

Conference Sessions:
Each morning will have a large plenary session that will consist of a keynote speaker or a themed panel that brings together all conference attendees. A second morning session will provide attendees with the choice between two to three panels on different thematic areas.

Workshops:
Each afternoon includes two workshop sessions, with numerous workshops offered during the 2 hour time slot.

Evening Programs:
The conference will begin with a Keynote Address and Opening welcome remarks at a Tuesday evening banquet. A second banquet, which will include a Nonviolence Awards ceremony, will be held on Thursday night.
Each evening will also include musical and other entertainment provided by Palestinian musicians and performers.
Attendance:
We are anticipating the participation of 500-2,000 people and are actively seeking participants from all regions of the world.

Travel & Logistics:
Travel arrangements, local accommodations and logistics are being coordinated by Holy Land Trust, a Bethlehem-based NGO.

Special scholarships will be awarded
Fundraising will be done by each regional committee seeking funding for participants from that region.

Accommodation:
Conference attendees are responsible for arranging their own accommodation through Holy Land Trust or on their own. Hotels are available in Bethlehem and Jerusalem at a variety of rates.
Palestinian Family Hospitality is also available for those who request in advance.

We are currently seeking additional partners, sponsors and endorsers to help make the conference possible.

Organizing Committees:
Regional organizing committees are located in US, UN, Canada, Palestine, Israel, India, Africa, Europe, South East Asia, Japan, Australia and Hawaii . In addition there are five technical committees working on various aspects of the conference organizations: Fundraising, Outreach, Local Arrangements, Program and Awards. We are still seeking individuals willing to commit time and energy to working on these committees. Please contact info@celebratingnv.org if you are interested in being involved.
A General Information package will be sent to Participants by email closer to the date of the conference. Those participants who are NOT from the United States , the Commonwealth, or member states of the European Union will need to begin the visa process rapidly. Conference organizers can provide you with a letter of invitation to assist you in the process of securing the necessary Israeli visa.
The primary language of the conference will be in English, although some workshops will be conducted in Arabic. Simultaneous t translation to French, Arabic, Spanish and English (for those sessions in Arabic) will be available.

Media:
Media and press will be invited to attend open conference sessions
Conference Papers will be available at the conclusion of the conference.
A list of participants will be available at the end of the conference. Those wishing not to be included on this list will be given that option

Exhibits:
100 exhibit or display tables are available to interested organizations, sponsors and individuals at a small fee. 20 tables are reserved for Palestinian organizations.
