Israele sta usando la corrente escalation di violenza per cambiare la demografia di Gerusalemme

Dallo scoppio della terza intifada, il governo della destra radicale israeliana, ha provato con tutte le sue forze a soffocare gli scontri di cui non ha più il controllo, mentre il fuoco ha raggiunto tutte le città palestinesi. Israele, che è stato sorpreso dalla nuova forma e dalla natura dei confronti, cerca di calmare la situazione in Cisgiordania e Gerusalemme intensificando le misure di sicurezza e le punizioni collettive inflitte ai palestinesi. Il governo ritiene che questo agisca da deterrente.

Tuttavia, le variabili e gli sviluppi sul terreno sembrano andare contro ciò che vuole il primo ministro Benjamin Netanyahu. Questo lo ha spinto a minacciare di revocare le carte d'identità blu portate da migliaia di residenti di Gerusalemme nella città santa.

L’israeliana Channel 2 ha rivelato l'intenzione di Netanyahu di formare una squadra di esperti per determinare le misure legali necessarie per revocare le carte d'identità in tre quartieri: campo profughi Shuafat, Kafr'Aqab e Al-Sawahra. La popolazione totale di queste tre aree è di circa 100.000 palestinesi. Il team è stato messo insieme nel corso di una riunione ministeriale sulle questioni di politiche di sicurezza di due settimane fa.

In realtà, le parole di Netanyahu sono un’esecuzione del piano da parte di Israele, la cui attuazione è iniziata oltre 12 anni fa, quando ha iniziato a costruire un muro lungo 46 chilometri per separare i grandi quartieri palestinesi e le periferie dal centro della città. Queste aree sono comprendono Al-Aizariyya nella parte orientale della città, e Al-Ram a nord. Le autorità di occupazione hanno anche in programma di separare altri quartieri in futuro. Secondo Alian Al-Hindi, ricercatore di affari di Gerusalemme, i tentativi di Israele di evacuare i gerosolimitani da Gerusalemme sono una politica adottata come parte di un piano che è stato istituito decenni fa. Questo mira a trasformare la maggioranza palestinese all'interno di Gerusalemme, con l'obiettivo di raggiungere una maggioranza ebraica dell’85 per cento della popolazione.

In un'intervista con Al-Resalah.net, Al-Hindi ha detto che il governo israeliano aveva iniziato ad attuare questo piano dopo la costruzione del Muro dell'Apartheid, che ha isolato quasi 150.000 palestinesi di fuori dai confini di Gerusalemme. Questa è il modo di Israele di confiscare le proprietà dei palestinesi in Cisgiordania. L’esperto di affari israeliano Alaa Khader è d'accordo con Al-Hindi e spiega che le intenzioni sono di dividere il popolo di Gerusalemme in due gruppi e per rendere la demografica ebraica molto più grande di quella palestinese. Khader ha spiegato che la revoca da parte del governo di Israele di oltre 100.000 carte di identità di Gerusalemme influenza notevolmente la realtà demografica di Gerusalemme, e viene visto da una prospettiva religiosa. Al-Resalah.net ha detto che Israele sta attualmente cercando di ottenere il controllo totale o parziale, come anche  temporale o spaziale di Al-Aqsa; Ha anche sottolineato che l'ultimo piano del Segretario di Stato americano John Kerry legittima la presenza di Israele nella moschea. L'attuazione di questo avrà un impatto negativo sui gerosolimitani, a cui sarà vietato di entrare a Gerusalemme, e cambierà l’aspetto demografico della città, che diventerà prevalentemente ebraica.

Il dottor Ahmad Ouda non è d'accordo ne con Khader ne con Al-Hindi. Il professore di scienze politiche presso l'Università di Al-Quds ritiene che sia improbabile che Israele farà ricorso alla revoca di migliaia di carte di identificazione di Gerusalemme. L'obiettivo di Israele nel fare tali affermazioni, ha detto, è quello di mettere pressione sui palestinesi, in particolare quelli che vivono a Gerusalemme, per calmare la rivolta popolare che si è accesa tra i territori palestinesi occupati della Cisgiordania e nella città santa. Egli ha aggiunto che la legge israeliana non permette a Netanyahu di revocare le carte d'identità in tali quantità, ma che la destra israeliana non rinuncia ad usare le parole del primo ministro per minacciare i palestinesi. Secondo l’opinione di Ouda, ogni tentativo di approvare una legge nella Knesset di revocare le carte d'identità sarebbe una dichiarazione di guerra e di pulizia etnica contro i palestinesi. Tale mossa avrebbe gravi ripercussioni in tutta la regione e in ambito internazionale.

Israel is using the current escalation to change Jerusalem’s demographics

Since the outbreak of the third intifada, the radical right-wing Israeli government has tried with all its might to stifle the clashes over which it no longer has control, as the fire has reached all Palestinian cities. Israel, which has been surprised by the new form and nature of the confrontations, seeks to calm the situation in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem by intensifying its security measures and collective punishments imposed on the Palestinians. The government believes that this will act as a deterrent.

However, the variables and developments on the ground seem to be going against what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants. This has pushed him to threaten to revoke the blue identification cards carried by thousands of Jerusalemites residing in the holy city.

Israel’s Channel 2 revealed Netanyahu’s intention to form a team of experts to determine the “legal” measures necessary to revoke the ID cards in three neighbourhoods: Shuafat refugee camp, Kafr 'Aqab and Al-Sawahra. The total population of these three areas is about 100,000 Palestinians. The team was put together during a ministerial meeting on security and political affairs two weeks ago.

In reality, Netanyahu’s words are an execution of the plan made by Israel, the implementation of which began over 12 years ago when it started to build a 46km-long wall to separate large Palestinian neighbourhoods and suburbs from the city centre. These areas included Al-Aizariyya in the east of the city and Al-Ram in the north. The occupation authorities are also planning to separate more neighbourhoods in the future.

According to at least one researcher in Jerusalem affairs, Alian Al-Hindi, Israel’s attempts to evacuate Jerusalemites from Jerusalem are a policy adopted as part of a plan that was established decades ago. This aims to transform the Palestinian majority within Jerusalem into a Jewish majority, with the target of 85 per cent of the population being Jews.

In an interview with Al-Resalah.net, Al-Hindi said that the Israeli government had started implementing this plan after it built the Apartheid Wall and isolated nearly 150,000 Palestinians outside the boundaries of Jerusalem. This is Israel’s move to confiscate the property of Palestinians in the West Bank. Israel affairs expert Alaa Khader agrees with Al-Hindi and explains that the occupation’s intentions are to divide the people of Jerusalem into two groups and to make the Jewish demographic much larger than the Palestinian population.

Khader explained that the Israeli government’s revocation of over 100,000 Jerusalemite identification cards will influence greatly the demographic reality in Jerusalem, and it is being viewed from a religious perspective. He told Al-Resalah.net that Israel is currently seeking to gain complete or partial control of Al-Aqsa Mosque; either temporal or spatial control. He also pointed out that US Secretary of State John Kerry’s last plan legitimises Israel’s presence in the mosque. The implementation of this will have a negative impact on Jerusalemites, who will be prohibited from entering Jerusalem, and it will change the city’s demographic, which will become predominately Jewish, Khader added.

Dr Ahmad Ouda disagrees with both Khader and Al-Hindi. The professor of political science at Al-Quds University believes that it is unlikely that Israel will resort to revoking thousands of Jerusalemite identification cards. Israel’s aim in making such statements, he said, is to put pressure on the Palestinians, especially those in Jerusalem, to calm the popular uprising that has been ignited across the occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank and the holy city. He added that Israeli law does not allow Netanyahu to revoke the ID cards in such numbers, but that doesn’t stop the Israeli right-wing from using the prime minister’s words to threaten the Palestinians.

In Ouda’s opinion, any attempt to pass a law in the Knesset to revoke the ID cards would be a declaration of war and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians. Such a move would have serious repercussions across the region and in the international arena, he concluded.
