Israeli forces detain more than 20 in Hebron predawn detention raids

Israeli forces carried out multiple predawn detention raids across the Hebron district in the occupied West Bank Tuesday, detaining more than 20 Palestinian men, teenagers, and children.

In the town of Beit Ummar, Israeli forces ransacked and searched several homes before detaining five young men and a teenager, a spokesman of a local popular committee in the town, Muhammad Ayyad Awad, told Ma'an.

Awad identified the detainees as Ziad Muhammad Bahar, 37, Basil Khalid Abu Maria, 20, Alaa Issa Sleibi, 26, Muhammad Hammad al-Alami, 21, Yousif Ahmad Abu Hashim, 22, and 16-year-old Uday Fakhri Husdam.

All were taken to an Israeli detention center in Etzion, he added.

Six others were detained in the nearby town of Halhul. Locals identified the detainees as Muhammad Hilmi Aqil, Samir Jamal Madiya, Uday Fuad Qawasmah, Rabee Khalid Zamaarah, Muhammad Azmi Zamaarah, and Karim Mahmoud Hneihin.

In the town of Dura in southwest Hebron, locals said Israeli troops detained 21-year-old Munthir Muhammad Quteina and 17-year-old Muatasim Suleiman Sharawna.

Separately, two Palestinian children and four adults were detained in the city of Hebron. Family members identified the detainees as 13-year-old Uday Sharif al-Ajlouni, 11-year-old Muhammad Anwar al-Atrash, Amir Majid Abu Rumouz, Eid Ribhi al-Ajlouni, Yasser Talib Abu Sneina, and his brother Nasser.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed seven arrests in the Hebron area, two of which were identified as "Hamas operatives," but had no further information.

Israeli authorities have orchestrated mass detention raids in Palestinian towns throughout the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem following fatal attacks on four Israelis over the past week.

A PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi condemned Israel earlier this week for what she termed "collective punishment" by Israel of the Palestinian people following the attacks, warning that current policy could increase tensions and cause the situation to "spiral out of control."
