Esplosione letale sulla strada nella zona est del Libano
Un ordigno esplosivo improvvisato di Zahle ha ucciso una donna e ferito almeno altri otto.
Un’esplosione ha ucciso almeno una persona sul bordo di una strada che attraversa la città libanese orientale di Zahle, il primo attacco terroristico mortale scuote il paese, da quando i kamikaze colpirono Al-Qaa nel giugno 2016.
Poco dopo l’1:00 un ordigno esplosivo improvvisato sulla rotonda Ksara della tangenziale di Zahle, ha strappato alla vita una donna siriana, morta nell'esplosione. Lo ha riferito l’agenzia nazionale libanese, National News Agency,
La NNA ha aggiunto che almeno altri otto sono rimasti feriti nell'esplosione, mentre la forza di difesa civile libanese ha annunciato che ha trasportato le vittime al vicino Ospedale Tel Chiha.
Secondo la NNA, l’ordigno era nascosto in un vaso di fiori dietro la rotonda e pesava meno di 5 kg.
"L'esplosione a Zahle è un tentativo di trasformare lo spasmo politico del paese in un sistema di sicurezza" lo ha dichiarato a OTV, l’MP di Zahle, Elie Marouni, membro del Falangi libanesi, in riferimento alla paralisi delle istituzioni politiche del Libano.
Iniziali non confermate, le notizie di stampa, hanno indicato che l’ordigno era diretto ai veicoli che trasportano i sostenitori del movimento Amal nel sud del Libano per partecipare ad una cerimonia in programma in tarda serata per commemorare la scomparsa dell'imam Moussa al-Sadr, nel 1978, fondatore del partito sciita.
L’esercito libanese non ha ancora emesso una dichiarazione sull’esplosione, mentre un'inchiesta è stata avviata sull'incidente, che arriva tre mesi dopo l'ondata di attentati suicidi ch uccisero almeno cinque residenti nella cittadina cristiana di Al-Qaa nel nord del Libano.

in east Lebanon
An IED in Zahle killed one woman and injured at least eight others.
A roadside blast has killed at least one person on a highway running through the eastern Lebanese town of Zahle, the first deadly terror attack to rock the country since suicide bombers struck Al-Qaa in June 2016.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m. an improvised explosive device (IED) tore through the Ksara roundabout of the Zahle highway, according to Lebanon’s state National News Agency, which reported that one Syrian woman died in the blast.
The NNA added that at least eight others were wounded in the explosion, while Lebanon’s Civil Defense force announced that it rushed victims to the nearby Tel Chiha Hospital.
The IED was placed in a flowerpot behind the roundabout and weighed less than 5-kilograms, according to the NNA.
“The Zahle explosion is an attempt to turn the political spasm [in the country] into a security one,” Zahle MP Elie Marouni—a member of the Kataeb Party—told OTV, in reference to the paralysis gripping Lebanon’s political institutions.
Initial unconfirmed media reports indicated that the IED was set up to target vehicles transporting Amal Movement supporters to south Lebanon to attend a ceremony scheduled later in the evening to mark the commemoration of the 1978 disappearance of Imam Moussa al-Sadr, the founder of the Shiite party.
Lebanon’s army has yet to issue a statement on the explosion, while an investigation has been launched into the incident, which comes three months after a wave of suicide bombings killed at least five residents in the small Christian town of Al-Qaa in northern Lebanon.
